Literacy

Today we listened to the story 'The Forgotten taniwha' by Robyn Kahukiwa. The elephants, lions and leopards used thinking tools to help them make their poem on the iPads. The Sea Turtles had to recall the story using the new esol iPads. We were lucky to use the iPads at our imagination time ( thanks room 14!!!). The Rhinos used spider scribe ( our fav website) to mindmap in preparation for our taniwha stories this week. Wow what a digital day!!!

Maths at news time

This morning we checked out kiwi kids news and found out that the world's shortest man and woman met. Chandra Bahadur Dangi is from Nepal, he is 54.6cm tall and we worked out by listening to the clip, he is 72 years old. The shortest woman is Jyoti Amge, she is 62.8cm tall and we worked out she was 18 years old. We compared our tallest and our shortest children with a ruler to compare the man's height. After reading more we worked out their difference in height using a number line. We had to find tidy numbers, whole numbers and decimal numbers.
